Helping Your Child with Downs Syndrome

Resources for Parents of Young Children with Downs Syndrome and other Challenges

I came across a delightful article on cnn.com about a 19 year-old male with Downs Syndrome who has been named prom king, works at target, and even started a small business. He never let his Downs Syndrome impact his dreams and goals.

Now it struck me, as a mother of a toddler with Downs Syndrome, as I am always looking for examples of children growing up to be adults thriving and enjoying life. The story has touching details about how loving and considerate Zach is, and shows the strength and patience of his mom as they went through schools and jobs.

He coaches hockey and even played a role in a local production of High School Musical, he is amazing and is a testament to what all children with Downs Syndrome and other challenges can do.

I loved reading about Zach and his mom and how they have come to this point; it gave me hope and put a smile on my face. I could really tell how happy they were.

I especially liked how the article talked about Zach and his mom starting a small business and how small businesses are how lots of young adults with Downs Syndrome are becoming active participants in the community. I have had this dream for my children as well.

Get inspired by Zach and read his full story here.
